A Milestone in York’s Rich History!
We are so proud to unveil our new signage at Foss Bridge House — a subtle yet significant addition that reflects the restaurant’s ongoing respect for the historic Grade II-listed building we now call home.
If you’ve walked past recently, you’ll have spotted the updated glass signage on the front, with “Foss Bridge House” displayed on either side of our doorway. This was a detail we were really passionate about keeping, as it follows the same tradition as former occupants like F.R. Stubbs and Loch Fyne, who also proudly carried the building’s name.
The front sign is not the only one we have updated. A sign on each side of our building has been repainted, now displaying the Marzano logo. It wasn’t an easy process, though. When we first applied for permission to update the signs, our request was initially declined — despite following exactly what previous businesses had done. After months of back-and-forth and nearly nine months after opening, we finally got the green light. It feels amazing to see the name back where it belongs and to know we’ve continued a little piece of Fossgate’s history.
Inside, we’ve carried the same respect for the building’s story. From fabric-inspired details that nod to its past as a draper’s and tailoring store to repurposing F.R. Stubbs’ original joinery into our bar, every decision in our refurbishment was made with care. We wanted to celebrate the heritage while creating a warm, welcoming space to enjoy modern Italian dining. For us, Marzano is more than just a restaurant — it’s now part of York’s ongoing story. These new signs aren’t just about us; they connect us to the past and proudly root us within the community. Foss Bridge House has seen so many chapters, and we’re honoured to be writing the latest one.
